Farmhouse Style-Formal Living Room Reveal (client project)

Today I get to share with you a very special project! A farmhouse inspired room tour in a space that is not my own home! (say what?!!) My sister in law and her amazing family recently relocated to their dream home! It is amazing!! And our family benefited from the amazing pool all summer to beat the Arizona heat! She had a very special party coming up this summer celebrating the baptism of my sweet niece into our church more about that can be found here LDS.org?.She asked me to come and make over her blank slate by starting with the formal living room!!

She expressed to me that the one thing her new house lacked that she regretted was a fire place! That’s when I told her fear not! You can totally put a fire place in without having to add gas lines or rip down walls or poke holes in the roof!!! If you have long since coveted having a fire place in your own home this post is for you!!!

She simply purchased an electrical plug in fireplace from amazon and a handy man created a builtin box for it! which he then added the beautiful flagstone tiles too and wood mantle! pretty neat huh?!!

The design started with the idea of a fire place and grew form there! I drafted up a set of built-ins using the IKEA Billy book cases! So it was incredibly budget friendly! Having hired a carpenter to make built-ins from scratch would have cost 5x’s as much!! She picked out a color pallet that included blues, whites, tans and stained wood! Together to combination was beautiful! Neutral with a just soft touches of color!

She also told me that she wanted to put all of her family pictures up somewhere! She had printed and taken family photos for years and they had never made it to frames or got hung! I came up with a solution;?re-purposing old frames to help her use LOTS of her family photos but also make it very easy to switch out whenever new pictures were taken!!

I made custom frames for the larger pictures a video ?tutorial on those can be found HERE

and then we made very simple shelves to put all her pictures on! These frames she already had and I will be share the whole process of how we made them over soon!

She hired a carpenter to create all the built-ins using a few billy bookcase builtin tutorials I had found on Pinterest! He also added extra texture to the room by following my shiplap tutorial and shiplaping the wall behind the piano and the area above the fireplace! I will be sharing more tutorials for each element of this room soon!! But for now you can see how it looks all finished up!!! Also major credit goes to my sister in law for picking out and completely styling the bookcases! They turned out amazing!!
